A&E has renewed freshman drama Breakout Kings for a second season and Breakout Kings.


A&E has renewed freshman drama Breakout Kings for a second season, Deadline reports.

Breakout KingsProduction is set to start later this year and Season 2 could premiere as early as the beginning of 2012. Breakout Kings, from former Prison Break producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora, wrapped its first season in May.


The series stars Malcolm Goodwin, Jimmi Simpson, Laz Alonso, Domenick Lombardozzi and Brooke Nevin.

"It's official guys! Your favorite cops & cons will be breaking out with a second season," the show's official Twitter account confirmed late Wednesday. "Stay tuned for more details."

The pilot for Breakout Kings was originally set up at Fox, but A&E saved the project after Fox passed in May 2010.
