American President Barack Obama passed his latest physical check-up with flying colors and is now "tobacco free", a medical report showed on Monday."The president is in excellent health and 'fit for duty'," his physician, Dr Jeffrey Kuhlman, wrote after conducting Obama's physical examination last week. "All clinical data indicate he will remain so for the duration of his presidency."

Obama, who struggled to kick his smoking habit, was described as being "tobacco free," eating healthy, exercising regularly and having a healthy weight. The twopage report also said that he "on occasion drinks alcohol in moderation."

When Obama had his last physical in February 2010, he had not yet stopped smoking. His doctors at the time recommended he continue "smoking cessation efforts" and alter his diet to bring down a cholesterol level that was borderline high.In June of 2009, when asked if he still smoked cigarettes, Obama said he was "95% cured" but added "there are times when I mess up".

While his doctor's report - the second of his presidency - indicated Obama had conquered the nicotine habit, there was no word from the White House on when had his last smoke.

Despite the stress of his job and more gray in his hair, Obama - who turned 50 in August - seemed to have improved his overall health. His cholesterol levels were down from his last full exam. His latest check-up found his overall cholesterol was 193, down from 209 in February last year. His bad cholesterol level, fell to 110, after registering 138 the last time. That had prompted his doctor to recommend changes in his diet.

After that Obama has been telling audiences that he is marking off a list of campaign promises he made in 2008."We're through about 60 percent of it," he told a group of 100 donors in Denver Tuesday. "Which isn't bad for three years.""There's still a lot of people hurting and there's still a lot of work to do," he continued. "And that 40 percent that's not done, I'm going to need you, because I need five more years."

Denver was the last stop in a three-day swing that also took him to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco, a fundraising-rich tour that let him spend time with top Los Angeles celebrities and to get some media attention in the battleground states of Nevada and Colorado.

During a quick stop in San Francisco Tuesday afternoon, Obama sought to draw a distinction between his economic plans and those of his Republican rivals, who he said are only interested in cutting taxes for the wealthy and eliminating regulations.

"It's not as if we haven't tried what they're selling. We have. And it didn't work," he told a 200-person crowd, each of whom paid a minimum of $5,000 to attend.

With his poll numbers sagging and enthusiasm among some of his supporters waning, the president reminded backers that his administration has had significant accomplishments, from overhauling health care to ending the military's ban on gay service members. But he acknowledged that change hasn't always been easy to come by."It's not as trendy to be an Obama supporter as it was back in 2008," 

He said. "We've had setbacks, we've had disappointments. I've made mistakes on occasion."The Western tour is one of Obama's busiest donor outreach trips of the season. In Los Angeles Monday, he turned to celebrities, including actor Will Smith and basketball legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson, to bring in money, and mingled with Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas over canapés at the movie star couple's home.

Celebrities are a tried-and-true fundraising draw, particularly for Democratic presidents. Both the president and the stars bask in their reflected fame and the endorsement of stars can be a useful asset.California ranks as Obama's top donor state, and he raised about $1 million in the Los Angeles area alone during the last two fundraising quarters, according to an Associated Press review of contributions above $200.

But that is not he needs the votes in California, a solidly Democratic state. However, Sacramento-based Democratic consultant Roger Salazar said the president, echoing national trends, is less popular now in the state than he was when he was elected.

"Democrats by their nature are going to give the president the benefit of the doubt," said Salazar, a veteran of California and national political campaigns. "But they want him to do something about it. They want to see some movement."Obama is promising some movement. He has been promoting his $447 billion jobs bill, which has been broken up into its component parts in hopes Congress can pass some of them.

He's also focusing on steps his administration can take without congressional approval, including an initiative announced Tuesday to offer millions of student loan borrowers the ability to lower their payments and consolidate their loans. Earlier this week, the administration unilaterally created new rules to allow homeowners who are deeply underwater.

 For the only "business" he wants to finish is the complete and utter dismantling of the United States economy. A study by Texas Tech University indicates that the electorate has a universal preference for tall leaders with a "physically formidable" stature because of "caveman politics". French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi both stand at 5ft 5ins tall and are among several world leaders of below-average height.

Whatever that, the report says favouring tall people is a prehistoric trend, now applied to political leadership races. Early humans preferred their larger peers as leaders because they were thought to have better survival skills, it asserts."Some traits and instincts that may have been acquired through evolution continue to manifest themselves in modern life," said Gregg R Murray, political science professor and co-author of the report. "We believe similar traits exist in politics."

Inspired by the Presidential Height Index, which shows that the taller candidates won 58 per cent of US presidential elections between 1789 and 2008, Dr Murray and his colleagues asked students to draw a "typical citizen" and an "ideal national leader". Of the 467 people surveyed, 64 per cent drew a taller leader and shorter citizen.

There was research done on (male) leaders of big business a couple of decades ago, and almost without exception they were either six foot or taller or five eight and shorter. The reason given for the short leaders was that they had had to learn how to compete: that is patronising, and ignores the fact that shorter males are more agile - better at getting coconuts and bananas.

How the arrival of more female leaders will affect this is open to conjecture: and in caveman times there would also have been dominant females, so without consideration  of the female half of the population I would tend to view this research as a bit of Californian psychobollocks.
